Mr. Jaime Mayor Oreja. Born in San Sebastian on July 12, 1951, he is an agronomist engineering, although he soon left his profession to pursue politics.
Affiliated to the UCD (1977), he was deputy and president of this party in Guipúzcoa (1980). Delegate of the Government in the Basque Country, position that would occupy the 30 of July of 1982. Deputy of Popular Coalition (February of 1984). In 1989 he was elected deputy of the PP by Guipúzcoa in the elections held in October of that year. On May 5, 1996, he was appointed Interior Minister in the first government of the Popular Party president, José María Aznar. After the general elections of March of 2000, the 27 of April, was revalidated in the position in the new Executive of Aznar. On February 28, 2001, he left the Ministry of the Interior, which became the first vice-president, Mariano Rajoy, the current President of the Government in Spain.
He has been deputy in the Congress, minister of Interior, candidate to lehendakari and MEP for the Popular Party from 2004 to 2014, among other positions. He was the head of the Popular Party’s list in the candidacy of the Popular Party in the European Parliament elections of 2004 and 2009. In his Political career in the European Parliament he held the position of vice-president of the European People’s Party and spokesman in the Euro- The chair of the European Ideas Network, the think tank created by the popular group in the European Parliament to “channel the thinking of the European center-right”
He is currently President of the Values and Society Foundation and of the European Federation “One of Us” for the defense of life and human dignity
